Join the Lyons Public Library Summer Reading Program Imagine Your Story, and have a fun, free, and educational summer. Sign up begins June 16, 2020 with curbside pickup. Unfortunately with Covid-19, we are unable to have live performers or gatherings, so things will be different this year. There will be 2 “virtual” programs that can be accessed via the Internet. (See the dates & times below.) You may use the WiFi in the Library parking lot if you do not have Internet access. The library will have craft bags with supplies; activities; things to do as a family; and FREE BOOKS!

Read 10 hours and receive a book bag/backpack, plus many other certificates. For each additional 10 hours read, you may enter to win one of 6 themed baskets with lots of goodies. August 1, 2020 is the deadline to have reading logs in.

The Lyons Public Library has just completed its

2019 Summer Reading Program: A Universe of Stories.

66 children read a total of 1,980 hours! The more hours read, the more chances they had to enter to win one of the themed baskets. Basket winners were Movies: Brayden Lambert; Cooking: Mariah Lambert; Crafts: Brooklyn Smith; Reading: Briar Lock; Games: Tim David; and Kids: Zayn Lambert. Those who did not win a basket, were entered into another drawing where they had many certificates, books, sleeping bags, etc. to win.

Every Thursday at 3:00 had hands on fun with crafts, and/or performers. Each program was fun, free, and educational, with the emphasis on reading, especially as a family. Statistics show that children who read over the summer are better prepared when they return to school in the fall. The performers were provided by a CCRLS Ready to Read grant, a Lyons Library Ready to Read grant, and the Youth Benefit Golf Tournament grant.

The Finale Party had snacks, crafts, and a store where children shopped based on the amount of hours read. Each hour equaled $1.00.

There were many sponsors that made this program a success. Please thank them when you have the opportunity. They are: A & W-Stayton; Bullwinkle’s Family Fun Center-Wilsonville; Enchanted Forest-Turner; Figaro’s Pizza-Stayton; Get Air-Salem; Gingerbread House-Mehama; Corner Market-Lyons; Northern Lights Theater-Salem; Oaks Park-Portland; Oregon Coast Aquarium-Newport; Oregon State Fair-Salem; Oregon Zoo-Portland; Papa Murphy’s-Stayton; Pietro’s Pizza-Salem; Portland Trailblazers-Portland; and Salem Riverfront Carousel-Salem.
